I get them daily from banks that I don't have accounts with. eBay and Paypal are common targets.
As others have said, and to keep it simple.
NEVER click a link in an email and fix an error or warning from some banking service saying that you have to restore your account information or have an outstanding payment (or whatever) that you didn't make.
The "phishing" messages use stolen server space and create look alike web pages with similar names. Maybe a dash or a .net instead of .com or even a different country code, one small character. Once traced they can vanish because the server they are using is stolen space on some hacked site.
I think I updated my information on eBay many years ago and I still wonder who has my SS# and that closed CC # on some list to be cheated in the future. SCary part is once someone steals your identity it's almost impossible to fix and getting a new Social Security Number is a real and long headache.
