A troy ounce (12 ounces to the pound) is different than an avoirdupois ounce (16 ounces to the pound). Got to be careful when selling precious metals to unscrupulous dealers who pay the going rate for silver and gold and demand 16 ounces to the pound from sellers rather than 12 troy ounces.
