Jerry,
I am with Archie on this one.
I don't want to come across as condesending just informative.
Silver strikes are ONLY considered GAMING TOKENS by the Nevada Gaming Commission and State Gaming Control Board.
Only the collectors, casinos and IGT think, Strikes are considered tokens, souvenirs or keepsakes. NCG only looks at them as "GAMING TOKENS" bottom line.
You need to read Regulation #12
http://gaming.nv.gov/stats_regs/reg12.pdf
Looking at what's currently been happening to chips and tokens regarding recent actions taken by the NGC, I believe that the NGC is starting to become less and less receptive to collectors and their concerns.
I haven't seen any specific regulations yet regarding collectors chips and tokens. However, the NGC has appearently stopped the use of certain wording on chips and tokens.
I suppose that most chip collectors at the convention were surprised to see few CC>CC chips released this year at the convention.
Just remember that according to regulation...
12.060 Use of chips and tokens.
1. Chips and tokens are solely representatives of value which evidence a debt owed to their
custodian by the licensee that issued them and are not the property of anyone other than that
licensee.
HERE'S AN IMAGINARY SCENARIO
The Flamingo "Rockette's" Silver Strike and the chip issued at the same time still has not been officially discontinued.
What if the "Rockette's" demanded that the Flamingo go to extraordinary efforts to retrieve all the tokens and chips that escaped from the casino and the casino knowing that the collectors are all in town for a convention show up with NGC and demand that all dealers and collectors give up their "Rockette's" tokens and chips in their possession for face value?
Remember the above regulation that the Casino still owns that property, the collectors and dealers do not.
