Rocky - Maybe Ebay has seen Jackpots way of doing things since they have always showed the bid amounts as soon as a bid was placed, as far as if this will cause a lot more bids close to the end I don't think so since it does seem to happen on Jackpot, if nothing else it lets people see what others are willing to pay for an item.
