Be advised of the term "ebay rare". Even though a particular strike or strikes are absent from ebay does not mean there are not many in existence. Since there are so many more strikes available than just a year or two ago the chances of any particular strike surfacing is diminished by the shear numbers. Add to this the poor market has many collectors holding on waiting for better prices. I've also noticed a common strike bringing above average price only because one has not been seen on ebay for a significant period of time. All it takes is two determined bidders to drive up the price on a single auction.
Another aberation in strike online pricing is Jackpot auctions free listing now entering month four. Since it costs nothing I've noticed a number of collectors listing strikes at prices higher than the average hoping to catch a lucky purchase.
All in all strike auctions are of little value in determining strike pricing or availability at least during this down cycle of strike pricing.
