I have met some interesting people in this thread, so I am not sorry I posted. I am amazed at all the military responses, and their interest in old war stories of Okinawa. Even if there wasn't a war at the time, we fought each other in the streets (dirt alleys?). Futima, Moromi, and Naha were my hang-outs - sometimes Nago. Roads didn't get much further north at the time.
