The convention dates are selected by what dates are available by the chosen convention hotel site and the best deal negotiated by the Convention Chairman. Some folks prefer attending summer conventions when children are out of school, some folks prefer spring or fall when the weather is not as hot.

As Andy Hughes stated ... no matter what convention dates are selected each year, someone will be inconvenienced and/or unable to attend. It's a tough call.
