Dennis; Obviously no one is going to change your personal position taken about the relationship that CC & GTCC has with the silver strikers organization ... nor am I about to attempt to revise it with this post. All my post is intended to be is to serve as a rebuttal to some of the things you have claimed.
Your follow-up post asked a question that I would like to respond to ... not so much as an attempt to change your mind; but for the sake of clarity for those who were not around in the year 1988, or the year 1992 which you have cited.
You posted; ... "Ok so you thought GT stood for gaming tokens which is what a silver strike is. Silver strikes came out the first time in 1992. Not sure when the CC-GTCC was formed but I bet it was long before 1992. Therefor GT stands for Gaming Tokens. Such as slot tokens. Am I missing something here?"
You are correct. CC & GTCC was formed in 1988 during the American Numismatic Association's annual convention in Cincinnatti, Ohio... four years before the first silver strike was issued (I'll accept your date as fact although I'm not 100% certain for sure)
When the Silver Strikers were formed as a Chapter at a subsequent CC & GTCC Convention, I was one of the first ones to sign up at their organizational meeting in Las Vegas. Obviously there was much benefit offered to the new Chapter membership as far as value goes. That value is still present ... even though there is not a Silver Strikers Chapter (in name only) any longer. Whether CC & GTCC was formed before or after silver strikes were first introduced into the hobby, the fact remains is that silver strikes ARE considered "gaming tokens" and fell under the umbrella definition of the club's overall purpose and scope.... and still does today in the year 2004.
I would venture to say (with no hard facts to prove it) but it is my personal opinion that the Silver Strikers Club would not be as large as it is today if it were not for the CC & GTCC and the past annual CC & GTCC conventions held in Las Vegas.
Having said that; I'm sure that there will be functions and activities planned exclusively for (and by) the Silver Strikers Club membership in the future ... but I would hope that bridges which have been built in the past between the two organizations have not begun to be torn down by a us vs. them mentality. It is to our mutual benefit to work together on behalf of the entire chips & tokens hobby and not go it alone.
