Hi Dennis,
I have read your post (and those that followed in the thread) and if I understood you correctly, you no longer belong to the CC & GTCC because you get nothing from it as a Silver Strike collector. I have to take exception with your statement.
In my mind, the fact that they organize and conduct the annual convention is reason enough to belong. I don't know of anywhere else where you can find so many silver strike collectors together at one time (great trading opportunities as well as the social aspect). I know the Silver Strike Slot Tournament put on by the Las Vegas Club was fun and well attended, but think how many more strikers will be at the convention. Not to mention all the sellers who are bound to have one of those rare "goodies" I need. Plus the Silver Strike auction after the business meeting.
I know how much work is involved in planning the annual Convention, and how much money is involved, and believe me, the Silver Strike collectors alone would not have an easy time organizing anything similar.
You also refer to the way the CC & GTCC has treated the Silver Strike Chapter. I'm with you that I don't like the loss of our "Chapter" status. But, in reality, it doesn't drastically change our status in the club. We are still being provided with meeting room space for our Silver Strike Forum and for our business meeting/auction/trading session during the Convention all at no cost. In other words, just the same situation as when we were a "Chapter". That is not to say that we won't have to make some changes in the way we operate as a club. We will. And that will take time and effort on our part.
Whether or not you join the CC & GTCC again is your call. I hope you do. Either way, I'll see you at the Convention!
Keep on collecting!!!
And everybody else, send in your Early Bird Banquet reservations!
