Let's set the "record" straight for the uninformed! Being a retired Postal Carrier I can "shed" a little light on the subject. Bubble packs are considered a "parcel" albeit a "small" one and are "normally" handled by personnel and not "sorting" machines. If you had ever watched a "sorting clerk" sort parcels to 55 different routes in one large room with 55 canvas hampers, one per each route you would know why packages get damaged and bubble packs get busted open! I was "horified" the first time I saw this "practice" taking place. Every Post Office I ever worked in did it the same way because of "staff" shortage.(Supervision is always trying to get less people to do more work)! Trust me, some of those parcels take a 35 to 40 foot "airborne" route to the hamper on many occasions not always landing where they are supposed to! Any postal supervisor who tells you anything different is pumping "hot air". That's the way it is handled. Of course the "carrier" always gets the "flak" because that's who you the customer, usually see on a daily basis and deal with! As for postal personnel stealing, you bet they do and I have worked with more than one "moron" who did just that, jeopardizing a good paying job to steal something worth a dollar! Believe me, postal supervision has some clever ways to "trip up" the would-be theives and sooner or later they do catch every one! My advice to you strikers, insure all parcels and bubble packs period! Enjoy "strikin"............
