Also, while I don't condone shilling nor contacting a seller ESPECIALLY after a bid has already been posted, if a friend of mine has a $40 strike that's closing soon and the current bid is only $20, I believe I would probably put in a bid for him if asked, at least up to face value.
It's not really a matter of propping up values making a prospective buyer lose a "steal", but just preventing someone from taking an unjustified "loss" just because of the eBay pricing structure.
Sometimes a seller can't add all the protective features eBay provides because it gets very expensive trying to sell something, especially if a lot of items are being offered.
Anyway, as bad as it is, sometimes one is forced to do something he wouldn't ordinarily want to do.
This controversy is a tough one.
