The scanner or camera just take the picture. It is often the software that enhances the image. If I just used the image that my scanner took it would not transfer well and so use I Adobe software to size, and clarify the photo. Also can enhance color and contrast. Simply a matter of having the right tools to do a good job. There are a number of software programs that do this and many scanners come with them...just experiment until you get a good image that transfers to the auction site. It did take me a while, but then I am asking for people to spend money and some effort should be made on the part of the seller. A good image and a good description are the key to a successful auction.
