I don't think it was attempt at deception at all.
After all, the poster clearly wanted everyone to know that it really wasn't you.
It was really just to make a point...and the readers saw that.
Since there aren't that many anonymous posts anymore, in cases like the current one, it would be better to just not return a comment toward it... additional comments just add to the fire.
