1200 DPI? HP 5P Scanner . . . . . 640x480 Mavica . . . . . . . . . . . 2 MP Kodak CX4230

I didn't spend alot of time on this, but here's what you can see. The scanner, even though older, does a good job. A new scanner would be even better. The Mavica which does a good job on photos, is a little short at 640x480 resolution. The Kodak EasyShare (on sale all over the place) does a fine job as well. The Kodak has close-up but no designated Macro focus.

If I had spent more time on lighting, the images would have been better. Not much can make the Mavica better, because it's just getting pushed to the limits of under 1 MP pictures. The scanner doesn't always have that tint, (see the bottom scan of the Caesar's $25 token)

With a little effort and practice, one could get a standard lighting setup for shooting strikes. That would mean a consistant color and you would know what to expect when you finally get something that works. I have used two old CDs, taped together to fill in the shadows. (you know the ones that AOL sends free every month) grin But for the purposes of this, I just flopped down a Strike on the green background and put it in the window.

By the way, the background will change the way a scanner/ cameras sees the strike. I didn't try plain white to see if it works better.
