Hey Gary... I think I get what you are saying. You are wondering why it is that no one cares to pay more than $10 for something that likely would cost you more than $10 of "real" money to get. Why are common strikes selling for less than spot scrap silver in some cases. I think it is a very simple answer... supply and demand. There is less demand for strikes now than a few years ago, hence lower prices. But, you have to look on the bright side. You have something worth at least something. How about some of those collector plates people thought would be worth something? Or maybe stamp collecting was your thing? How about folks who thought proof sets were collectibles. (1999 and 2001 are good). Bottom line, when we sell our strikes, we need someone looking to buy them. No new collectors, nobody to buy. You question should be "how can we build the hobby back?" Did you read the most recent newsletter? Membership is way down in the club, partly in my opinion because we didn't make it easy for people to renew. That sounds like it is fixed. Membership is down because the strikes aren't silver (except some red caps and $200's), but I see pretty active bidding on eBay for the Four Queens clads and PH clads. Membership is down because bottom line is it's more fun to win than buy strikes. When there are only a few casinos with strike machines, it's hard to find new members looking for a club specializing in their new winnings. I think we have to be content with the fact that we actually have a nice collectible token, with some unknown value, rather than a little receipt you get when you cash out of one slot and dump it in another. What says anyone else out there?
And for those of you who read the newsletter regarding melting club strikes for scrap to reduce the cost of the next strike. Tell me that was a joke or a ploy to get people to panic and buy. I bought one of each of the strikes(3) Jo has. I would be more than happy to pick up another ten at melt + a couple dollars profit for the club each. How about some kind of volume discount on ten packs of strikes being offered to people who have already bought some before melting.... come on folks
