Dave, I can try a picture. Sure. In the coin collecting world this would be described as something like grease on the die during striking. The brass sort of looks like it was ground away but actually it is smooth. Not polished though like other strikes that are missing letters. Plaza 2 of 3 missing "I" comes to mind.
