I have spoken with the Executive Director of the Neon Museum in Las Vegas and need to find out how many people would have an interest in touring the famous “Neon Boneyard”. The details of the tour are listed below. We fully understand the tour may be in conflict with some things that are already scheduled during the convention, but this is an opportunity that we can not pass up. I will be speaking with the Director again next week with a tentative head count. They do not normally offer the “private tours” on Saturdays, but will make the arrangements to accommodate us for this special event. I need to know if there is enough interest from the membership for this tour, so:
IF we are able to work out the final details and you would like to attend, I will place the first 85 people on the list to take this tour. DO NOT EMAIL! Post your name and membership # and how many in your party on the in the response line to this post. (Must be done on the CCGTCC BB. Click on the link above to sign up. You can not sign up on this BB.)
The “Neon Boneyard” is currently closed to the public, but the Neon Museum has plans to open it to public tours later this year. We have an opportunity to take a private, guided tour of the 3-acre site on Sat, June 28th at 9 am. There is $5 per person fee and will include ˝ hour guided tour of the "Neon Boneyard" and ˝ hour of free time to roam around. You must provide your own transportation to and from the site and you must be on time.
In addition to the refurbished signs that are on display along Fremont Street, the exhibit, “Neon Unplugged: Signs from the Boneyard” is open to the public through January 4, 2004. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9 am – 5 pm at the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society at 700 Twin Lakes Drive, Las Vegas, in Lorenzi Park. The cost here is $2 for adults and displays a small sampling of the un-restored signs the Museum now owns. For more info on the Museum, go to www.neonmuseum.org.
