If you are talking about what people call Copper Rim Strikes they aren't Copper, the are a Red Brass which has a Copper color. If you look at the side of a Copper colored strike you will see the copper color layer then the normal yellow brass color. To answer your question I don't know what it would do to the color and don't think I would want to try cleaning one.
