To the “Petes” of the world,
I respectfully disagree that this war is not about terrorism and that anyone who supports it is “racist” towards Arab Muslims. This war is not about any one issue. It is about a number of complex, inter-related issues which when combined, have a high probability of threatening our way of life. Many of us are not content sitting on our thumbs waiting for another major attack. The evidence against Saddam’s regime regarding terrorism is overwhelming. Considering how effectively he has hidden from the U. N. inspectors the weapons of mass destruction we know of and his reluctance to destroy them, it is naďve to think he would not utilize them against us or our allies-possibly through terrorist channels or when he develops an effective delivery system.
It is certainly understandable for one to question the motives of our political leadership given the blatant lies and dishonest behavior of certain past administrations. Despite one’s political views or position on the war and considering the fact that hundreds of thousands of well intentioned allied forces are putting their lives at risk to protect our way of life, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to turn on the television without seeing some green haired “peace” protester attempting to block relief shipments to the liberated Iraqi’s or some Hollywood slob attempting to undermine the legitimacy of our President.
