When a spammer attaches his/her message to one of your old posts ... you are automatically notified by email. However, by the time you get around to viewing the post ... one of the message board administrators has probably removed the spam post... which is why you don't see it when you click onto the notificaton link. I too have deleted old message board posts of mine after they have become hijacked for use by spammers.
